Shield, whose real name was Kristopher Elliot, publicly announced her diagnosis in September 2025, sharing on Instagram that the cancerous growth in her neck had a 70-80% treatment success rate. She underwent chemotherapy starting that month, followed by radiotherapy, completing her final cycle in late January 2026. Despite recent stage returns at venues like the Oxford Hotel and Palms on Oxford Street in early February, she passed away days before hosting a sold-out Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras viewing party.

A fixture in Sydney’s queer nightlife for over 25 years, Shield performed across venues including Stonewall Hotel and Universal Sydney. She placed sixth on RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under Season 1 in 2021, impersonating Magda Szubanski in the Snatch Game challenge. Her credits included the 2000 Sydney Olympics closing ceremony, the 2002 Gay Games opening, and the 2023 film The Winner Takes It All.
