House Oversight Investigates Ilhan Omar Family-Linked Wealth Surge Amid SOTU Guest Arrest
Feb. 25, 2026 — Washington, D.C. — Capitol Police arrested Aliya Rahman, guest of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) at President Trump’s State of the Union address, charging her with unlawful conduct after she stood silently in the gallery.
Rep. Omar’s office issued a statement describing the response as “heavy-handed.”
“My guest, Aliya Rahman, stood up silently in the gallery during the president’s speech for a short period of time, part of which other guests were also standing. For that, she was forcibly removed, despite warning officers about her injured shoulders and ultimately charged with ‘Unlawful Conduct.’ […] The heavy-handed response to a peaceful guest sends a chilling message about the state of our democracy. I am calling for a full explanation of why this arrest occurred.”
Rahman, a Minneapolis resident and U.S. citizen with a prior ICE encounter, received medical treatment at George Washington University Hospital before booking.
Ongoing Probe into Ilhan Omar Family-Linked Businesses
The incident coincides with a House Oversight Committee investigation into companies tied to the Ilhan Omar family through her husband, Tim Mynett. Chairman James Comer (R-KY) requested financial records from eStCru LLC and Rose Lake Capital LLC, where Mynett holds stakes.
Omar’s disclosures show the businesses valued at $15,000-$50,000 in 2023, surging to $5-25 million (Rose Lake) and $1-5 million (eStCru) in 2024, per Forbes analysis. Overall Ilhan Omar family net worth excluding these is -$40,000 to $115,000.
Comer raised concerns over unexplained increases, potential foreign influence, and prior fraud lawsuits against Mynett’s partner.
“Financial disclosure forms […] show eStCru LLC and Rose Lake Capital LLC […] went from being worth as much as $51,000 in 2023 to as much as $30 million in 2024. […] this sudden jump in value raises concerns that unknown individuals may be investing to gain influence with your wife.”
Omar called the probe a political stunt.
