Trump Invites Sage Blair Parents Michele and Sage Blair to State of the Union Address

Feb. 24, 2026 — Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump invited Sage Blair and her mother Michele Blair, residents of Appomattox, Virginia, as special guests to his State of the Union address, highlighting their ongoing legal battle over parental rights in gender identity policies at school.

The invitation spotlights a case where, at age 14, Sage Blair allegedly faced school officials who affirmed her male gender identity without notifying Sage Blair parents, leading to harassment and her running away, after which she was sex-trafficked, drugged, and raped, according to Daily Caller reporting. A judge reportedly separated her from Sage Blair parents for not affirming the identity, but she has since reunited with her family and attends Liberty University.

Case Background

Michele Blair sued Appomattox County School Board officials in 2023, alleging they concealed Sage Blair’s gender dysphoria disclosures, affirmed a male name “D” and pronouns, allowed boys’ restroom use, and failed to address sex-based harassment including threats and assaults, per the 4th Circuit Court opinion. Plaintiffs Sage Lily Blair, identified as S.B.’s paternal grandmother and adoptive mother, and Michele Blair claimed Title IX deliberate indifference and due process violations.

“S.B.—a 14-year-old girl who suffered from gender dysphoria—was harassed, sexually assaulted, and threatened at school upon being advised by a school counselor that she could use the boys’ restroom.”

The court revived the Title IX claim against the school board in August 2025, dismissing others.

Sage Blair ran away twice post-incident, trafficked to Maryland and Texas, rescued by FBI, and later reverted to female identity during treatment, as detailed in Assigned Media.

Invitation and Broader Context

WSET reported the Sage Blair parents were attending Tuesday’s address. Attorney Vernadette Broyles of Child & Parental Rights Campaign noted it spotlights parental involvement.

“[The invitation] highlights the national conversation on putting parental involvement and child safety first.”

Politico, Newsweek, Them.us, and CNN listed Sage Blair as a flashpoint in parental rights and transgender youth debates. The case inspired “Sage’s Law” for parental notification of gender ID changes.

Sage Blair parents continue their lawsuit post-remand, amid national discussions on school policies.
